Panther Regiment battles the heat

Saturday was a double header for the marching band. They had 2 competitions, the first at FJ Reitz High School in Evansville and  the second at Floyd Central. They placed 3rd at FJ Reitz High School and won people’s choice and fan favorite at Floyd Central.

The only thing causing them trouble was the heat. The temperature reached 85 degrees and the sun was shining. The uniforms for the marching band consist of dark purple of black overalls underneath a long sleeve jacket and pants. At FJ Reitz High School seven people passed out, one of those passed out on the field, and one went to the hospital due to heat exhaustion. Alyson Carpenter was one of those who passed out.  The South marching band alone went through four to five water coolers of water just at FJ Reitz High School, Carpenter had four ice packs with her, but passed out on the concrete. “The parents and staff were amazing especially of keeping fed and making us drink water” Carpenter said. In spite of this past weekend, the band is excited to get back to practice today.
