U.S. Poet Laureate comes to B-town

On Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 from 3:30-5pm there will be a poetry workshop for teens with Juan Felipe Herrera, the U.S. Poet Laureate. The U.S. Poet Laureate is the national poet during his or her term.

At 5pm transportation will be provided to the library for performances and then from 6-7pm at the Buskirk Chumley for food and music. The U.S. Poet Laureate will perform at 7:30pm. It’s free, but tickets will be collected at the Buskirk Chumley prior to the event.

All Students with a permission slip will leave school at 2:30pm on Friday to go to the workshop. The permission slip is due Monday September 26. The workshop will be a chance to share and edit your own poetry with Juan Felipe Herrera.

If you are interested in perfecting your poetry or want to hear the U.S. Poet Laureate perform, stop by A212 to see Mrs. McDermott for more information and any questions you have. In the words of Juan Felipe Herrera “it all reduced to number letter figures/ without faces or names only jagged lines/ across the miles half – shadows”.
