The heater in South’s pool has broken, as the students who jumped in on Thursday discovered. Athletic Director JR Holmes said the school is trying to expedite the shipping of the new parts and get the heater fixed as fast as possible, but until then, the swim team was practicing in the freezing water. “It definitely affects performance; it’s hard to swim when your muscles are so tight,” said swimmer Emily Long, a junior.
As of Dec. 15, the water temperature was so cold that morning swim practices are canceled and the swimmers practice in the evening at North. Swimmer Mackenzie Looze was disappointed to lose the extra practice time in such an “important part of the season.”
