Happy Gilmore 2 was released this July, the sequel to the classic comedy movie starring Adam Sandler as a pro-golfer. In comparison to the original I thought it was a pretty funny movie with a decent continuation to the first film, but lacking in the story telling. I feel it lost the flare the original film had.
The movie starts abruptly when Gilmore accidentally causes the death of his wife when driving a golf ball. He is deeply affected with the loss and goes into retirement, losing just about everything he owns. This all changes when he faces off in a golf tournament against a new league of golfers, the Maxi League, to save his daughter’s dreams of going to dance school
The movie has gained some mixed reviews. Junior Ben Devries said that the movie “lost the charm of the original” and is “lacking the element that made the first one special.”
On the other hand, junior Kaden Lang felt that the movie was “pretty great all around” and “made [him] laugh,” complimenting the comedic quality of the film.
In agreement with Lang, junior Reuvem Dove stated, “it was pretty good,” even in comparison to the original.
From the perspective of critics it was overall a decent movie with critics rating it 65% on rotten tomatoes.
