After competing at the varsity level for both cross country and track since their freshman year, the twin sisters, South seniors Aurelia and Jasmine Martoglio, will continue their running careers at Indiana University Bloomington.
“It’s like I’ve grown up here so it feels like home to me. I really connected with the team, and the coaches there, and I feel like I can get a lot out of myself there,” Jasmine said.
Aurelia agreed as she said, “I really like the coaches and the team, and I love how close it was to home. It felt very comforting and I was really excited about it.”
With Aurelia placing 23rd at the 2024 state cross country meet and Jasmine being a part of the record breaking first place 4×800 relay at the 2025 state track and field meet, they attracted a lot of interest from college programs. The twins also considered Ohio University and Ball State.
They are also looking forward to the challenge of racing at the collegiate level. A high school cross country race is a 5k (3.1 miles), but in college for women it is a 6k (3.7 miles). “It’ll be a difference when you get to the 3k. It’s like ‘oh, I am halfway.’ It’s [only] 1k more, so it should be ok,” Aurelia said.
Jasmine said, “I definitely think it will be an adjustment but, like everything, I feel like I can adapt to it and learn from it and it’ll be fun.”
Jasmine and Aurelia both didn’t necessarily plan to go to the same college but that’s the power of the Martoglio twin telepathy. “We weren’t going to base our decision off where each other went, but we both really loved IU,” Aurelia said, “so, I mean, that’s why we both chose it, but it’s nice to go to the same school.”
