Hudson Hoops week 9 IHSAA basketball power rankings

Week 9 of Hoosier high school basketball is on the horizon so it is time to stop and rank the teams and update you on their recent performances.

Class 4A

Lawrence North (14-0) (-)

Another big win over Lawrence Central solidifies the wildcats as the number one team in the state of Indiana. They also recently got a big overtime win at Warren Central to add to their already impressive resume.

Bloomington South (15-0) (-)

As the second of only two remaining undefeated teams in Class 4A, the Panthers fall in line at number two. They don’t have as many impressive wins as Lawrence North but still have a few opportunities remaining in the season to pick up a big win.

Lawrence Central (14-2) (-)

With two losses to Lawrence North as the only blemish on their impressive resume, the Bears are still one of the best teams in the state. Recent wins over Lafayette Jeff and Silver Creek prove just that.

Brownsburg (12-1) (+2)

With the Bulldogs lone defeat coming at the hands of Lawrence North and a recent win over Fishers, Brownsburg has continued to look like one of the best teams in Class 4A.

Lafayette Jeff (14-2) (+2)

The Bronchos best win comes against Fishers, but they came up short in their other big games versus Lawrence Central and Westfield. I would need to see another big win out of this squad to justify putting them any higher.

Fishers (13-3) (-1)

Losing three of their last four, the Tigers are on a skid as of late, but I still believe this team is really good based off of wins over Columbus North and Bloomington North they got earlier on in the season.

Warren Central (8-3) (-3)

A three game losing streak sparked by an overtime loss to Lawrence North made the Warriors fall pretty far in my rankings. I would’ve had them fall farther if it wasn’t for the fact they took the best team in the state to overtime.

South Bend Adams(13-1) (NR)

The Eagles’ only loss was given to them by Jeffersonville which is by far the toughest game on their schedule so far. I need to see a win on the road at Chesterton this week to be sold on this team.

Columbus North (11-3) (-4)

The Bulldogs of Columbus North have been playing really well this season, but a questionable loss to Mooresville last week is what is standing in the way of a higher spot on my rankings for them.

Jeffersonville (11-4)(NR)

Four losses is a lot for a team to be in the top ten, but the Red Devils have no bad losses on their schedule and have quality wins at Floyd Central and over South Bend Adams. This team is pretty solid and can definitely give good teams trouble when they play against them.

Dropped Out: Floyd Central(7), Westfield(10)

Class 3A

Silver Creek (13-1) (-)

I don’t need to say much more about this team than I already have. The Dragons are clearly the most dominant team in 3A and continue to prove it.

Heritage Hills (10-3) (-)

Finding their footing with 5 straight wins after a 5-3 start has the Patriots remaining at number two in my 3A rankings.

South Bend St. Joseph (9-3) (+5)

The Indians have been solid throughout the season; however, recent losses to Mishawaka Marian and Culver Academy are keeping them out of the number 2 spot.

Norwell (12-1) (-1)

The Knights one loss came against a good team in Mishawaka Marian which puts them around the middle of the pack for me. They don’t have any bad losses or really good wins.

Danville (13-2) (-1)

It came down to losses for this spot. They had one more loss than Norwell so they are one spot lower on the list. Losing to Plainfield twice hurts them in my rankings.

Greensburg (12-2) (-1)

Greensburg has still only lost to Southport and Bloomington South, but when they’ve played against other 3A schools, they have shown that they are a powerhouse.

Indian Creek (10-2) (+2)

The Braves have only lost two games, both to 4A schools, and they have a few decent wins but none that are really eye popping, so I put them at seventh because I think they are a good team but their wins don’t show that yet.

Delta (9-2) (-1)

Following up their 27-1 season the Eagles are off to a nice start at 9-2 and are on their way to another impressive year. They have been bullying other teams in 3A all year long and it doesn’t look like they plan on stopping anytime soon.

Mishawaka Marian (8-2) (NR)

The Knights started off the season 1-2, but have since won seven straight and picked up high quality wins against Norwell and South Bend St. Joseph’s. With the recent success of South Bend Adams in 4A, one of their early season losses doesn’t seem as bad.

Hammond (10-2) (NR)

Hammond, now on an eight game winning streak, has looked very impressive in their recent games and should be considered as one of the better teams in Class 3A.

Dropped Out: Connersville(5), Brebeuf-Jesuit(10)

Class 2A

FW Blackhawk Christian (12-2) (-)

After a questionable loss to Homestead I thought about lowering the Braves on my rankings, but I decided that there wasn’t any other team that was more deserving to be number one so I left them at the top spot.

Shenandoah (11-1) (+1)

The sole blemish on their record is a two point loss to Fishers which is by no means a bad loss. Aside from that game, they have looked like the dominant team I thought they would be coming into the season.

Linton-Stockton (13-2) (-1)

Losing to Terre Haute North and Barr-Reeve back to back definitely hurt their ranking, but two recent wins against Bloomfield add some more quality wins to their resumè keeping them from falling below number three.

Evansville Mater Dei (10-2) (+1)

The Wildcats only two losses are from other bigger Evansville schools, but aside from that they have taken care of business and won all the games they should.

South Decatur (13-0) (NR)

Being the only remaining undefeated team in 2A reserved a spot for them at number five in my power rankings.

Dropped Out: Prairie Heights(4)

Class 1A

Greenwood Christian(13-0)(+1)

The Cougars are undefeated and while they don’t have as many good wins as other teams in their class they have enough good wins to be number one.

Barr-Reeve (12-1) (-1)

Barr-Reeve looks very beatable. Coming off a loss to Loogootee, the Vikings look like they can be beat as they have struggled with some weaker teams such as North Daviess.

Kouts (11-0) (+1)

While undefeated, the Mustangs’ quality of wins aren’t enough to justify me putting them ahead of Barr-Reeve, unlike Greenwood Christian.

Gary 21st Century (12-2) (+1)

The Cougars have sandwiched two losses in the middle of six wins on both sides and are building an impressive resumè for themselves.

Lafayette Central Catholic (9-2) (NR)

Overcoming two early losses, the Knights are looking like they are back in the conversation of best 1A teams with 8 straight wins.

Dropped Out: Bloomfield(3)
