Freshman Violet Hall is one of the many stars on the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team. Her position is quite unique, not only being a freshman on varsity but accomplishing this all with one hand, yet. Below, Hall provides answers to my various questions.

Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.

A: I’m Violet Hall. I’m a freshman, and I’ve been playing basketball since, I think,  first grade.

Q: What’s the best hype song before a big game?

A: My hype song is probably like California Gurls by Katy Perry.

Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?

A: Well, I don’t really, but before games, the team usually sings the fight song.

Q: Concerning your basketball career, where do you see yourself in five years?

A: In five years, my goal would be to play in college. But get to college first, and then if basketball comes with it that would be cool.

Q: Being a freshman on the varsity team is pretty unique. How were you able to get here?

A:  A lot of hard work definitely, because you just have to put yourself out there really and be willing to do all the extra stuff and the little things.

Q: What are some of the different challenges you face while playing basketball with only one arm?

A: Well, I know that our coaches are looking for people that can score and rebound, though, rebounding is definitely hard for me, just like grabbing the ball. A lot of people force me to drive left, so I’m working on that right now.

Q: Do you see any strengths in playing the game with only your left arm?

A: I guess, like, people usually seem to underestimate me because of my arm.
