Bye high school; hello college

As the school year comes to a close, our seniors are making decisions that will pave the way for their future. Some college-bound seniors are heading for IU or Purdue, while others are traveling miles away this fall. Here are some of those seniors:

After much deliberation, Grace McKay is heading to the University of  Notre Dame this coming school year. She was debating on attending multiple other schools, but ultimately came to the conclusion that Notre Dame was the best opportunity for her. Due to her many interests, especially in chemistry and science, she will be studying biochemistry. She decided this as her major because she wants to be a pediatrician. Not only is she going to one of the top colleges in the country, but she also won the prestigious Lily scholarship.

As for Hazel Stringer it was an easy choice. She will be heading to Middlebury College in Vermont this fall. She is planning on studying history with a future in law as she wants to make a difference wherever she ends up, and she thinks the “greatest issue we as a people are facing right now is polarization.” She thinks her major will help her “better understand the present as it repeats itself in different configurations.”

Robert Dugan will be traveling far for college as he will be attending the University of North Dakota to study business management and marketing. He chose this school because his mom’s side of the family has been in business for quite a long time. “I’ve been a part of it ever since I was a little kid,” said Dugan. He will be learning the family trade this fall.

Last but not least, senior Ella Goldman will be going to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York this August. Although far from home, she believes it is the best choice for her. She has already decided her major to be environmental studies because she is interested in the environment as it also incorporates the social sciences. “I feel like it’s the best combination for me,” said Goldman. She can’t wait to learn more about the environment and what she can do to help this fall.

Now as we are counting down the days of this school year, we wish all the best of luck to the 2023 graduating class. Congratulations seniors!
